Pharmaceutical Manufacturers receive the EDI Acknowledgment inbound message from Repackagers, Wholesale Distributors, and Dispensers, acknowledging the receipt of the Advanced Ship Notice (ASN) for purchased product.

Pharmaceutical Manufacturers acting as Wholesale Distributors send the EDI Acknowledgment outbound message to Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, Repackagers, or Wholesale Distributors to acknowledge the receipt of the ASN when they purchase product.

Pharmaceutical Manufacturers use the HDMA ASN Transaction History message to send an ASN containing the TH to Repackagers, Wholesale Distributors, and Dispensers that purchase the product, using the HDMA 856 format.

Pharmaceutical Manufacturers use the HDMA Extended ASN Sales Shipment message to send the full T3 information (the Transaction Information, Transaction History, and Transaction Statement) and trade partner business data to Repackagers, Wholesale Distributors, and Dispensers that purchase product, using the Extended HDMA EDI 856 ASN format.

Pharmaceutical Manufacturers use the Increment Transaction History Quantity message to increase the quantity of product within their inventory due to clerical inaccuracies with the inventory count. This message updates the Transaction History (TH) associated with the product to the new quantity in TraceLink.

Pharmaceutical Manufacturers receive the Return Receipt message from Repackagers, Wholesale Distributors, and Dispensers that previously purchased product and are now returning it. If the product can be resold, the Pharmaceutical Manufacturer needs the TH from the original sale and return, and if the product cannot be resold, the message records the return for the audit trail.

• Pharmaceutical Manufacturers use the Sales Shipment message to communicate contents of a sales delivery at the lot-level. This message initiates THs for manufactured product, and sends the THs to the Repackager, Wholesale Distributor, or Dispenser.
• If the Pharmaceutical Manufacturer acts as a Wholesale Distributor, this message specifies a pick operation matching THs for product sold, and sends the THs to the Repackager, Wholesale Distributor, or Dispenser purchasing the product.

• Pharmaceutical Manufacturers use the Sales Shipment message to communicate contents of a sales delivery at the lot-level. This message initiates THs for manufactured product, and sends the THs to the Repackager, Wholesale Distributor, or Dispenser.

Pharmaceutical Manufacturers use the GS1 US Healthcare Transaction History message to send an Advanced Ship Notice containing the Transaction History to Repackagers, Wholesale Distributors, and Dispensers that purchase the product, using the GS1 US Healthcare format.

Pharmaceutical Manufacturers acting as Wholesale Distributors use the Ship Notification message to provide Repackagers, Wholesale Distributors, and Dispensers with a "lightweight" ship notification that arrives ahead of the full ASN. The Repackager, Wholesale Distributor, or Dispenser purchasing the product use this message as a logistics document to facilitate receiving reconciliation.

Pharmaceutical Manufacturers acting as Wholesale Distributors use the Transaction History Inventory Request message to request an inventory report for current TH quantities, filtered by NDC and location, from TraceLink. This report allows the verification of physical counts with the TH quantities.

Pharmaceutical Manufacturers acting as Wholesale Distributors receive the Transaction History Inventory Response message from TraceLink, which contains the inventory report generated by the Transaction History Inventory Request message.

Pharmaceutical Manufacturers use the Update Transaction message to update the state of an existing TH by:

• Adjusting the available inventory quantity associated with the TH.
  Only for Pharmaceutical Manufacturers acting as Wholesale Distributors.
• Changing the state of the TH from "Available" to "Quarantined" and vice versa. Quarantined THs are excluded from pick operations.
  Only for Pharmaceutical Manufacturers acting as Wholesale Distributors.
• Void a TH associated with a delivery sold to a Repackager, Wholesale Distributor, or Dispenser.
