Update serial number statuses

As serial number information is added and updated in the Serialized Operations Manager repository through the course of the Producer's serialization activity, TraceLink syncs this information to Product Information Manager within 24 hours so that when members of the downstream supply chain verify a product, the response is accurate and up-to-date. The data synchronization rules must be set prior to syncing.

Verify the serial number at least 24 hours after the update occurred in Serialized Operations Manager through the Product Information Exchange Web UI or REST message.

Serial number information

Only certain serial number statuses, item statuses, and reason codes in Serialized Operations Manager have meaning in Product Information Manager. See Set data rules for more information about indicating suspect and recalled products in responses.

Only serial numbers with one of the following Serial Number Statuses sync to Product Information Manager:

  • Commissioned – Product Information Manager returns a verified response for the serial number unless the serial number:
    • Has an Item Status of Under Investigation and the Producer uses that item status to indicate suspect product.
    • Has a Reason Code of Recalled and the Producer chooses to return an invalid response for recalled product.
    • Is expired and the Producer chooses to return an invalid response for expired product.
  • Decommissioned – Product Information Manager returns an invalid response for the serial number.
    • If the Producer chooses to indicate suspect products through this serial number status, then the response might indicate that the product is considered suspect, depending on the Producer's custom verification rules.
    • If a Reason Code of Recalled is applied at the time of decommissioning, the response might indicate that the product is recalled, depending on the Producer's custom verification rules.
  • Destroyed – Product Information Manager returns an invalid response for the serial number.
    • If the Producer chooses to indicate suspect products through this serial number status, then the response might indicate that the product is considered suspect, depending on the Producer's custom verification rules.
    • If a Reason Code of Recalled is applied at the time of destruction, the response might indicate that the product is recalled, depending on the Producer's custom verification rules.
  • Under Investigation – If the Producer chooses to indicate suspect products through this item status, then Product Information Manager returns an invalid response for the serial number. The response might indicate that the product is considered suspect, depending on the Producer's custom verification rules.
  • Recalled – If the Producer chooses to indicate recalled products in responses, then Product Information Manager returns a recalled response, which can be verified or invalid depending on the Producer's custom verification rules.

Updating serial numbers

Serial number information can be updated manually through the Web and Mobile UIs or automatically through integration.
