Verify products to ensure that a returned product is valid before reselling it.

Verify products as a Consumer

Consumers verify returned products to ensure that the product is safe to resell according to the Producer. For example, if a Dispenser returned products to a Wholesale Distributor, before that Wholesale Distributor can resell the products, they have to verify that the Pharmaceutical Manufacturer that produced the products still considers the serial numbers valid (i.e. has not marked them as recalled, suspect, destroyed, or invalid in some other way).

Consumers must own Smart Event Manager to verify product.

Verify a product in the Web UI

Hover over Modules, and then select Product Information Exchange.
Select Verify Product.
Select one of the following Verification Reason option from the drop-down:
- Illegitimate Product Suspicion – The product is being verified because it is suspected as being illegitimate.
- Saleable Return Check – The product is being verified to confirm that it can be resold after being returned.
- Status Check – The product is being verified for routine reasons to retrieve basic verification information, such as the product's expiration date.
- Verify Product Exception – The product is being verified to retrieve more information about a product exception.
Select the Verification Source:
- Enter Product Information – Enter the product's serial number information manually:
  1. Select the product's Packaging Code type, and enter the unique value in the field below the drop-down.
  2. Enter the individual Serial Number for the specific item, without the packaging code.
  3. Enter the Lot Number or batch number associated with the product.
  4. Enter the Expiration Date associated with the product's lot.
- Scan Product Information – Scan the Serial Number barcode for the product. The barcode must contain a packaging code (01), serial number (21), lot number (10), and expiration date (17).
The Expiration Date might require a day, in addition to the month and year, depending on the Producer's configuration. The Expiration Date field also allows products to be verified against their extended expiration date. The Expiration Date of the product being verified must match the original expiration date in the Producer's system even if the expiration date has been extended.
If the company links to Product Information Manager (Product Verification) as both a Producer and Consumer, select Another Company Produced this Product as the Product Source.
Select whether your company is in possession of the product to be verified from the Confirmation of Possession radio buttons:
- Yes, I am in possession of this product – If the company is in possession of the product to be verified.
- No, I am not in possession of this product – If the company is not in possession of the product to be verified.
Select Submit.
The product verification request automatically includes the requesting company's verification contact information.

Verify a product on a mobile device

Open the Smart Inventory Tracker app on the mobile device.
Select Event Reporting if the app does not default to Smart Event Manager.
Select Serial Number Verification.
Enter the Transaction ID to associate with the verification event (optional):
- Scan the barcode.
  or
- Enter the transaction identifier manually, and select the Submit icon.
Select the Transaction ID Type (required if Transaction ID is present):
- Bill of Lading
- Destruction Order
- Invoice Number
- Nota Fiscal
- Packing Slip Number
- PO Number
- Return
- Sales Order Number
- Script ID
- Shipment Number
- Transfer Number
If the Market is US or one of its regions
1. Select one of the following Verification Reason option from the drop-down:
  - Illegitimate Product Suspicion – The product is being verified because it is suspected as being illegitimate.
  - Saleable Return Check – The product is being verified to confirm that it can be resold after being returned.
  - Status Check – The product is being verified for routine reasons to retrieve basic verification information, such as the product's expiration date.

2. Select whether your company is in possession of the product to be verified from the Confirmation of Possession radio buttons:
  - Yes, I am in possession of this product – If the company is in possession of the product to be verified.
  - No, I am not in possession of this product – If the company is not in possession of the product to be verified.
Select one of the following US Markets:
- American Samoa
- Guam
- Northern Mariana Islands
- Puerto Rico
- United States of America
- US Minor Outlying Islands
- Virgin Islands, U.S.
Enter the Serial Number:
- Scan the barcode.
  or
- Select the Serial Number field to enter the barcode information manually:
  1. Select GTIN as the barcode type.
  2. Enter the Packaging Code for the product (e.g. GTIN, NTIN).
  3. Enter the individual Serial Number for the specific item, without the packaging code.
  4. Enter the Lot or batch number associated with the product.
  5. Enter the Expiry date associated with the product's lot, formatted as "YYMMDD".
  6. Select Submit.
Smart Inventory Tracker sends the serial number and verification request to Smart Event Manager in real-time. Smart Event Manager then submits the verification request to Product Information Manager (Product Verification), which searches for matching serial number information in its repository or routes the request to an external VRS.

Tips

To view all serial numbers sent to Smart Event Manager during the current session, and whether each scan was successful, select the Serial Numbers button.
To reset the Transaction ID, Market, and serial numbers list, select Done .
For smartphone users, Smart Inventory Tracker automatically opens the camera to scan barcodes.
- Select the Close icon to disable the camera.
- Select the Open icon to enable the camera.

Verified Product

The verification request is successful, and the product can be verified as legitimate.

Verified Product – Product Expired

The verification request is successful, but the product is expired and not fit for distribution. This response displays only if the Producer chooses to indicate that expired product returns a valid response.

Contact Information – The responding company's product verification contact information. Displays only for verified products and if the Market is American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, United States of America, US Minor Outlying Islands, or Virgin Islands):

Verified Product – Product Recalled

The verification request is successful, but the product is recalled and not fit for distribution. This response displays only if the Producer chooses to indicate that recalled product returns a valid response.

Contact Information – The responding company's product verification contact information. Displays only for verified products and if the Market is American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, United States of America, US Minor Outlying Islands, or Virgin Islands):

Invalid Product

The verification request is successful, but the product cannot be verified as legitimate because one or more of the specified fields does not match the serial number information found in Product Information Manager (Product Verification) or an external VRS.

Specified Product – The serial number information entered above displays in this section. The values that do not match a record in Product Information Manager (Product Verification) or the external VRS are bold and red.
Contact Information – The responding company's product verification contact information. Displays only for verified products and if the Market is American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, United States of America, US Minor Outlying Islands, or Virgin Islands):

Invalid Product – Product Expired

The verification request is successful, but the product is expired and not fit for distribution. The product also cannot be verified as legitimate because the Producer chooses to indicate that expired product returns an invalid response.

Invalid Product – Product Recalled

The verification request is successful, but the product has been recalled and is not fit for distribution. The product also cannot be verified as legitimate because your company chooses to indicate that recalled product returns an invalid response.

Invalid Product – Suspect Product

The verification request is successful, but the product cannot be verified as legitimate because the Producer has marked the product as suspect and not fit for distribution.

Invalid Product – Manufacturer Policy

The verification request is successful, but the product cannot be verified as legitimate because the Producer chooses to indicate that the product is not fit for distribution without giving a reason why (e.g. the product is marked as suspect or recalled, but the Producer chooses to omit that reason in the response).

Invalid Product – Product Illegitimate

The verification request is successful, but the product cannot be verified as legitimate because the Producer has marked the product as illegitimate and not fit for distribution.

Unable to Verify

The verification request is unsuccessful because the packaging code entered does not exist in Product Information Manager (Product Verification) or an external VRS.

On a mobile device

Verified Product

The verification request is successful, and the product can be verified as legitimate. However, the product could still be recalled or expired.

State – The serial number's state according to Product Information Manager or an external VRS (displays only if the Producer has a specific state defined for that serial number).
- Suspect – The Producer has marked the product as suspect and not fit for distribution.
- Recalled – The product has been recalled and is not fit for distribution.
- Expired – The product is expired and not fit for distribution.
Product – The packaging code for the product.
Serial Number – The individual serial number for the specific item, without the packaging code.
Lot – The batch or lot number associated with the product.
Expiry – The expiration date associated with the serial number's lot.
Production Date – The date that the product was manufactured.
Child Count – The number of children contained within the serial number.
Active Potency – The quantity of the product required to cause a defined effect.
Country Item Codes – The National Healthcare Reimbursement Numbers associated with the product (e.g. Germany PZN, France CIP, Spain CN, Brasil DRN, Portugal AIM).
Contact Information – The responding company's product verification contact information. Displays only for verified products and if the Market is American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, United States of America, US Minor Outlying Islands, or Virgin Islands):
- Email – The email address of the verification contact.
- Phone Number – The phone number of the verification contact.

Invalid Product

The verification request is successful, but the product cannot be verified as legitimate because either the Producer has indicated that recalled or expired product must return an invalid response or one or more of the specified fields does not match the serial number information found in Product Information Manager (Product Verification) or an external VRS.

State – The serial number's state according to Product Information Manager or an external VRS (displays only if the Producer has a specific state defined for that serial number).
- Suspect – The Producer has marked the product as suspect and not fit for distribution.
- Recalled – The product has been recalled and is not fit for distribution.
- Expired – The product is expired and not fit for distribution.
Product – The packaging code for the product.
Serial Number – The individual serial number for the specific item, without the packaging code.
Lot – The batch or lot number associated with the product.
Expiry – The expiration date associated with the serial number's lot.

Verify products as a Producer

Producers verify against their own serial number information for returns they receive or to ensure that the response Product Information Manager returns is correct.

Verify a product
