Transfer serial numbers

Companies or locations can transfer provisioned and encoded serial numbers to a third party to be printed and applied to packaging before packing the product.

Transfer numbers

Transferring a serial number updates the company or location where the serial number is available for use.

  1. Hover over Modules in the top left of any screen, and then select Serial Number Exchange.
  2. In the Access Functions section, select Transfer Numbers.
  3. In the Select ServiceLink section, fill in the following field:
    • ServiceLink drop-down – Required. The Serial Number Exchange Link that includes the company that provisions the serial numbers and the company or that is transferring the serial numbers.
  4. In the 2. Identify Transfer From Location section, fill in the following field:

    • Location SGLN field – Required. The SGLN of the commissioning location (e.g. 7654321.54321.0).

  5. In the 3. Identify Transfer To Location section, fill in the following fields:

    If a transfer to location is not specified, the transfer is pending and must be manually completed at a later time.

    1. Identifier Type drop-down – The type of identifier for the location receiving the serial numbers:
      • DUNS – The 9-digit Dunn and Bradstreet Number (e.g. 82-759-6961).
      • DUNS+4 – The 9-digit Dunn and Bradstreet Number with 4 digit extension (e.g. 82-759-6961-KP89).
      • GLN – The 13-digit Global Location Number (e.g. 8856277233311).
    2. Identifier Value field – Conditionally required if an Identifier Type is entered. The unique identifier for the location receiving the serial numbers.
  6. In the 4. Specify Serial Numbers To Be Transferred section, fill in the following fields:
    • Specify With radio buttons – Required. Identifies how serial numbers are specified for transfer:
      • Packaging Code and Reference Document (For Encoded Numbers Only):
        • Packaging Code field – Required. The packaging code that identifies the product and packaging level (e.g. each, inner pack, case).
        • Reference Document Type drop-down – Required. The document used to specify the serial numbers.
          • Reference Identifier – The internal business identifier. The Reference Identifier field displays below for the value.
          • PO Number – The purchase order associated with the serial numbers. The PO Number/Line field displays below for the values.
          • Work Order Number – The unique identifier associated with the work order. The Work Order Number field displays below for the value.
      • List of Serial Numbers:
        • Select the Upload Serial Numbers from File radio button:
          1. Select Choose File.
          2. Browse for and select the desired .csv or .txt file.
          or
        • Select the Scan Serial Numbers radio button and:
          1. Enter the serial numbers.

            or

          2. Scan the serial numbers with an Edge device.

  7. Deselect Repeat Function After Submit to display the Packaging Events Log after selecting Submit (optional).

  8. Select Submit.

    TraceLink begins processing the transfer request. When complete, the serial numbers are available for the new company or location to encode, commission, or deactivate. Completed requests display in the Packaging Events Log.

    • If the Repeat Function After Submit checkbox is selected, the screen refreshes.
    • If the Repeat Function After Submit checkbox is not selected, the Packaging Events Log screen displays.

Tips

  • To view incomplete transfers, select Pending Transfer or Packaging Events Log from the Go To drop-down in the top right.

Troubleshoot and complete pending transfers

Companies and locations can search for serial numbers that are pending transfer to another company or location. Transfers might be pending because the transfer to location was not originally specified or could not be found, or the transfer encountered an error. Complete transfers by updating the appropriate information manually.

  1. Hover over Modules in the top left of any screen, and then select Serial Number Exchange.
  2. In the Go To drop-down in the top right, select Transfer Numbers.
  3. In the Search Criteria section, fill in one or more of the following fields to filter the results:
    1. Packaging Code field – The packaging code that identifies the product and packaging level (e.g. each, inner pack, case).
    2. Keywords field – Required. The Transfer To Location, Transfer From Location, or Reference Documents associated with the transfer.
    3. Updated On Or After field – The date that the modification occurred on or after.
    4. Updated On Or Before field – The date that the modification occurred on or before.
  4. Select Search.
  5. Select the checkbox in the first column of the results table to indicate the transfer is complete.
  6. Select the Link for the company or location receiving the transfer from the Transfer to ServiceLink drop-down.

  7. Deselect Repeat Function After Submit to display the Packaging Events Log after selecting Submit (optional).

  8. Select Transfer Numbers Selected.

    TraceLink begins processing the transfer request. When complete, the serial numbers are available for the new company or location to encode, commission, or deactivate. Completed requests display in the Packaging Events Log.

    • If the Repeat Function After Submit checkbox is selected, the screen refreshes.
