Request serial numbers

Owners request additional serial numbers when the quantity of a product on a manufacturing or packaging line exceeds the quantity of provisioned serial numbers available.

Request numbers

  1. Hover over Modules in the top left of any screen, and then select Serial Number Exchange.
  2. In the Assignment Functions section, select Request Numbers.
  3. In the 1. Select Service Link section, fill in the following field:
    • ServiceLink drop-down – Required. The Serial Number Exchange Link that includes the Owner and the company or location that requests or receives serial numbers.
  4. In the 2. Enter Request Information section, fill in the following fields:
    1. Plant SGLN – Required. The SGLN of the of the requesting plant (e.g. 7654321.54321.0)
    2. Quantity – Required. The amount of serial numbers requested.
    3. Encoding Format drop-down – Required. The format of the serial number based on the packaging code type:
      • AI(01)(21) – An application identifier that contains the item's Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) or National Trade Item Number (NTIN) and serial number.
      • AI(00) – A Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC).
      • CN-EDMC – A Chinese Electronic Data Monitoring Code.
    4. PO Number field – The purchase order associated with the serial numbers.
    5. PO Line Number – The line number on the PO that the serial numbers are for.
    6. Work Order Number field – The unique identifier associated with the work order.
    7. Reference Identifier field – The internal business identifier.
  5. In the 3. Find and Select Packaging Code section: 
    • Search for the all of the location's packaging codes:  
      • Select Search to display a full list of available packaging codes for the Plant SGLN with that Encoding Type.

        If the Encoding Type is AI(00), only this option is available.

    • or

    • Search for and select the specific packaging code: 
      1. Fill in the following fields:
        • Item Code drop-down – The product item code that the serial numbers are commissioned for.
        • Description field – The product description, which includes the product name, dosage, form, and the number of doses (e.g. Migraine Med 30 MG Tabs 30).
      2. Select Search.
  6. Select the radio button for the correct Packaging Code and Description in the table displayed.
  7. Deselect Repeat Function After Submit to display the Packaging Events Log after selecting Submit (optional).
  8. Select Submit.

    TraceLink begins processing the request for additional serial numbers. When complete, new serial numbers are now available for commissioning. Completed requests display in the Packaging Events Log.

    • If the Repeat Function After Submit checkbox is selected, the screen refreshes.
    • If the Repeat Function After Submit checkbox is not selected, the Packaging Events Log screen displays.
