Configure menus

Solution Designers can use OSE to create and configure the menu that appears in the side menu panel on the left side of their Company Solution. In OSE, the navigation structure includes the following three elements:

  • Menu– A menu is the top-level navigation element that organizes related submenus and menu items. It provides a clear structure for accessing different areas of the application.
  • Submenu – A submenu is a subset of a menu that groups related menu items within a menu. It adds contextual organization, helping users find actions related to a specific business process, such as procurement or inventory management.
  • Menu item – A menu item represents a specific action or business object that users can interact with. Each menu item typically launches a corresponding page, such as a search or view/edit page for a business object.

This structured approach enhances usability by allowing users to navigate efficiently through the various functionalities available in OSE. The contents of the menu are determined by the user's role, and menu items that the user cannot access are automatically hidden.

Add, edit, search for, and delete a menu

  1. Select the Main Menu icon.

  2. Select Opus Solution Environment.

  3. Select Solution in the side menu.

  4. Select Menus in the side menu.
  5. Select the New button.
  6. In the New Menu screen, fill in the following fields:
    • Menu Name field - Required. An internal name of the menu that is unique within the solution.
    • Menu Display Name field - Required. The name of the menu. This is the name that displays in the side menu when the menu is added to a solution.
    • Solution drop-down - Required. The solution where the menu displays.
  7. Select the Save button.

    The menu is saved and appears on the Search Menus screen.

Tips

  • To create more than one menu, select the Save and New button instead of the Save button.

  1. Select the Main Menu icon.

  2. Select Opus Solution Environment.

  3. Select Solution in the side menu.

  4. Select Menus in the side menu.
  5. In the Menu Name column of the Search Menus table, select the desired name of the menu.
    The Menu Details screen appears.
  6. Select the Edit button.
  7. In the Menu Information section, fill in the following fields:
    • Menu Name field - An internal name of the menu that is unique within the solution. This cannot be changed after the menu has been created.
    • Menu Display Name field - The name of the menu that displays in the user interface.
    • Solution drop-down - The solution where the menu appears.

  8. Select the Save button.

    The menu is saved and appears on the Search Menus screen.

  1. Select the Main Menu icon.

  2. Select Opus Solution Environment.

  3. Select Solution in the side menu.

  4. Select Menus in the side menu.
  5. Select the Filter button.
  6. In the Filters panel, fill in one or more of the following search parameters:
    • Solution drop-down - Displays the name of the available solutions.
    • Menu Name field - An internal name of the menu that is unique within the solution.
  7. Select the Apply button.

    A Search menus screen appears.

  8. In the Menu Name column of the Search Menus table, select the menu link to open it.

    The Menu Details screen displays the contents of the selected menu.

  1. Select the Main Menu icon.

  2. Select Opus Solution Environment.

  3. Select Solution in the side menu.

  4. Select Menus in the side menu.
  5. Select the row of the menu to delete.
    Do not select the contents of the Menu Name column.
  6. Select the Delete icon.
  7. In the Delete panel, confirm the message and select Apply.
    Deleted menu is permanently removed and it cannot be restored.

Add, edit, and delete a submenu

  1. Select the Main Menu icon.

  2. Select Opus Solution Environment.

  3. Select Solution in the side menu.

  4. Select Menus in the side menu.

  5. Select the Filter button to search for the desired menu.

  6. In the Menu Name column of the Search Menus table, select the menu link to open it.

    The Menu Details screen appears and displays the contents of the selected menu.

  7. In the Submenus and Menu Items section, select the Add icon.
    The New Submenu or Menu Item push panel displays.
  8. In the Submenu or Menu Item section, fill in the following fields:
    • Submenu or Menu Item drop-down - Required. Select Submenu.
    • Name field - Required. Enter an internal name of the submenu that is unique within the menu.
    • Display Name field - Required. Enter the name of the menu that displays in the user interface.
  9. In the Autonavigation section, fill in the following fields:
    • New Page drop-down - The name of the New page that appears when a user selects the New button on the Search page associated with the menu item.
    • Search Page drop-down - The name of the page that appears when a user selects the menu item.
    • View/Edit Page drop-down - The name of the View/Edit page that appears when a user selects a link in the Search page or the Save button in the New page associated with the menu item.
  10. Select Apply.
  11. Select the Save button.

Tips

  • After creating the submenu, Solution Designers can add specific menu items to it. Each menu item must represent a business object or action relevant to the submenu's context.

  5. Select the Filter button to search for the desired menu.

  6. In the Menu Name column of the Search Menus table, select the menu link to open it.

    The Menu Details screen appears and displays the contents of the selected menu.

  7. Select the Edit button.
  8. In the Submenus and Menu Items table, select the desired row for the submenu to edit.
  9. Select the Edit icon.
    The Edit Submenu or Menu Item push panel displays.
  10. In the Submenu or Menu Item section, fill in the following fields:
    • Submenu or Menu Item drop-down - Select Submenu.
    • Name field - The internal name of the submenu that is unique within the menu.
    • Display Name field - The user-facing name of the submenu.
    • Target Page Type drop-down - Select whether the menu item opens a report or dashboard:
      • New - Creates a new instances of application objects.
      • Search - A default landing page where users can view, search for, and create new object instances.
      • View/Edit - View existing instances of objects and edit them if needed.
      • Dashboard - Displays a visual representation of data and metrics.
      • Report - View and generate reports related to the business objects.
    • Page Context field - Enter additional context for the selected page type.
  11. In the Autonavigation section, fill in the following fields:
    • New Page drop-down - The name of the New page that appears when a user selects the New button on the Search page associated with the menu item.
    • Search Page drop-down - The name of the page that appears when a user selects the menu item.
    • View/Edit Page drop-down - The name of the View/Edit page that appears when a user selects a link in the Search page or the Save button in the New page associated with the menu item.
  12. Select Apply.
  13. Select the Save button.

  5. Select the Filter button to search for the desired menu.

  6. In the Menu Name column of the Search Menus table, select the menu link to open it.

  7. Select the Edit button.
  8. Select the row for the submenu to delete.
  9. Select the Delete icon.
  10. In the Remove Submenu or Menu Item panel, confirm the message and select Apply.
  11. Select the Save button.
    Deleting a submenu also deletes all menu items within the submenu.

  10. In the Autonavigation section, fill in the following fields, based on the business object type to be associated with the menu item:
    • New Page drop-down - The name of the New page that appears when a user selects the New button on the Search page associated with the menu item.
    • Search Page drop-down - The name of the page that appears when a user selects the menu item.
    • View/Edit Page drop-down - The name of the View/Edit page that appears when a user selects a link in the Search page or the Save button in the New page associated with the menu item.
  11. Select Apply.
  12. Select the Save button.

Tips

  • If the solution allows only one instance of the business object type, associate the menu item with its View/Edit page. If multiple instances are possible, associate all menu items with a Search page instead.

      Set to True to show only the latest version. Set to False to display all available versions.

    • Dashboard Name or Report Name type-ahead field - Enter the name of the report or dashboard to display.
    • Page Context field - Enter additional context for the selected page type.
  10. In the Autonavigation section, fill in the following fields, based on the business object type to be associated with the menu item:
    • New Page drop-down - The name of the New page that appears when a user selects the New button on the Search page associated with the menu item.
    • Search Page drop-down - The name of the page that appears when a user selects the menu item.
    • View/Edit Page drop-down - The name of the View/Edit page that appears when a user selects a link in the Search page or the Save button in the New page associated with the menu item.
  11. Select Apply.
  12. Select the Save button.
