Export a CSV File to Excel

Opening an exported CSV file in Excel results in a loss of data or improper formatting (e.g. not recognizing application identifiers, dropping leading zeroes, scientific notation conversion). Select a drop-down below for instructions on exporting a CSV file in TraceLink or MS Excel.

- Select the Export Results to CSV link.
The file downloads (location varies by user preference).
- Select Save.
- Select a location on the browser.
Do not select "Open."

- Open a blank Excel worksheet.
- Select Data > From Text.
- Choose the CSV file in the "Import Text File" dialog box.
- Select Import:
- Select the Delimited option, and then Next.
- Deselect the default Tab option. Either:
- Select the Comma option, and then Next.
- Select the Period option, and then Next.
- Select all columns and the Text option, then Finish.
- In the "Import Data" dialog box, select the New worksheet option, and then OK.
- Select File > Save As and keep the default Save as type set to Text (Tab delimited).
The file now displays the correct data and formatting.
CSV downloads sort by default (they do not reflect sorts done in the UI).
Do not open the recently saved CSV file.
