Select the Packaging Information tab on the Edit Product screen.

Add or edit packaging information for each product to control the type of serial numbers used for the selected packaging level the product is produced/shipped in (e.g. Case, Innerpack, Pallet).

Different Packaging Information is needed for each type of shippable unit a product produced in, and may also be required for the different markets the product is sold in.

• Packaging Code Type – The serial numbers for the product are generated according to the packaging code type. If necessary, define a packaging code for each packaging unit of measure that needs to be tracked.
  • CN-ResCode – This packaging code type is specific to China (must be 5 digits).
  • GTIN-14 – (Global Trade Item Number) This packaging code type is accepted in any country (must be 14 digits).
  • NTIN – (National Trade Item Number) This packaging code type is specific to a single country (must be 14 digits).
• Packaging Code – The unique value for the Packaging Code Type. See Packaging Code Type above for the field requirements.

  If the Packaging Code Type is CN-ResCode, fill out Rescode instead of Packaging Code.

• Packaging UOM – (Packaging Unit of Measure) Determines the level of the packaging hierarchy for this packaging code. If multiple packaging codes are defined, serial numbers can be generated for each level of the packaging hierarchy.
  • Primary – The level of packaging that physically touches the product, i.e. blister packs (not available for CN-ResCodes).
  • Each – The smallest salable unit of the product.
  • Inner Pack/Bundle – A grouping of eaches.
  • Case/Shipper – A grouping of inner packs/bundles or a grouping of eaches if the packaging hierarchy does not include inner packs/bundles.
  • Pallet – The level of packaging with cases grouped together on a pallet (not available for CN-ResCodes).
  • None – Available only for CN-Rescodes.

Some optional fields might be mandatory based on a country's regulatory requirements:

China

• Packaging Ratio – The ratio of the packaging levels included within this packaging code (e.g. 1:5:10 refers to one large Case, with 5 smaller Inner Packs/Bundles inside, each of which contains 2 Eaches for a total of 10 Eaches). Required if the Packaging Code Type is CN-ResCode.

  TraceLink only uses this field for compliance reporting purposes, not validation during aggregation.

• Container Aggregation Quantity – Number of children contained in this level of shipment. E.g. for a Case, the Container Aggregation Quantity would list the number of Inner Packs contained in each Case.

  Required for China Compliance to determine whether each shipment is fully or partially packed.

• Code Version – The product code version number (e.g. 81, 88). Required if the Packaging Code Type is CN-ResCode.
• Code Level – The packaging level associated with this ResCode. Only numeric values 1-9 allowed, with 1 the innermost packaging level. Required if the Packaging Code Type is CN-ResCode.

India

• Container Aggregation Quantity – Number of children contained in this level of shipment. E.g. for a Case, the Container Aggregation Quantity would list the number of Inner Packs contained in each Case.Mandatory if the Packaging UOM is Each, and the Country Market Code on the "Target Markets" tab is IN or the Export From Country on the "Item Information" tab is IN.

  Mandatory if the Packaging UOM is Each.

• Rescode – Required if the Packaging Code Type is CN-ResCode.
• Container Aggregation Quantity – Number of children contained in this level of shipment. E.g. for a Case, the Container Aggregation Quantity would list the number of Inner Packs contained in each Case.

  TraceLink only uses this field for compliance reporting purposes, not validation during aggregation.

• Batch Size Max / Acceptable / Min– Set the parameters for the batch size maximum quantity, acceptable quantity, and minimum quantity. This field is only editable when the Packaging UOM is Each. The Acceptable and Min fields are mandatory if the Batch Size Max is entered.

  Required for Serial Number Exchange to perform End of Batch Verification and generate the Documents of Serialization.

• Batch Size Max – The maximum size of the batch.
• Acceptable – The acceptable size of the batch determined by percent. Numeric value between 1-100 only.
• Min – The absolute minimum size the batch can be determined by percent. Numeric value between 1-100 only.

  Ex.

• Serialization Type – The type of pattern used to generate serial numbers.

  Informational only.

• None – The packaging code does not generate serial numbers.
• Random – The pattern generates serial numbers at random.
• Sequential –The pattern generates serial numbers in sequential order.
• Requires Aggregation – Whether each UOM requires serial numbers.

  Informational only.

• Aggregated – Each UOM requires serial numbers.
• Not Aggregated – Not every UOM requires serial numbers.
• Filter Value – Control information that allows an RFID reader to select only the packaging code for this packaging level, out of many other levels of packaging codes. Only numeric values from 0-7 allowed.
• GS1 Company Prefix – Prefix included in the packaging code, assigned by the GS1 organization. Mandatory if the Packaging Code Type is GTIN-14.

  TraceLink uses this prefix to convert serial numbers in barcode format to the EPC URN format used in EPCIS messages.

• Code Version – The product code version number (e.g. 81, 88). Required if the Packaging Code Type is CN-ResCode.
• Code Level – The packaging level associated with this ResCode. Only numeric values 1-9 allowed, with 1 the innermost packaging level. Required if the Packaging Code Type is CN-ResCode.
• Data Status – Whether the packaging information data is active or inactive within TraceLink.
  • Active – The data can be used in messages and UI functions, and TraceLink pulls the data when necessary.
  • Inactive – The data cannot be pulled for other functions within TraceLink.

1. In the first column, select the Packaging Code Type from the drop-down.

   If CN-Rescode is selected, the Primary Item Code selected on the Item Codes tab must be a CN - Subtype Code.

2. Enter the Packaging Code in the text field before the drop-down.
3. In the second column, select the Packaging UOM from the drop-down.
4. Enter the Container Aggregation Quantity in the first text field below the drop-down.
5. Enter the Packaging Ratio in the second text field below the drop-down.
6. In the Batch Size Max/Acceptable/Min fields:
   1. Enter the Batch Size Max in the first text field.

      

   2. Enter the Acceptable percentage in the middle text field.

      

   3. Enter the Min percentage in the last text field.

      

7. In the third column, select the Serialization Type from the first drop-down.
8. Select whether the packaging Requires Aggregation from the second drop-down.
9. In the fourth column, if GTIN-14 is selected as the Packaging Code Type, select a Filter Value from the drop-down.
10. If GTIN-14, or NTIN is select as the Packaging Code Type, enter the GS1 Company Prefix in the text field below the drop-down.
11. In the fifth column, if CN-ResCode is selected as the Packaging Code Type:
    1. Enter the Code Version in the first text field.
    2. Enter the Code Level in the second text field.
12. In the sixth column, select the Data Status from the drop-down.

13. To delete or add Packaging Information:

    • Select Add New.

    or

    • Select the Remove icon.
14. Select Submit.

    The View Product Details screen displays, and the updated product's information is saved.
