End of Batch Event Overview (EPCIS v1.2)
The End of Batch Event message allows Owners and Partners to communicate the end of production for a batch of product. It can be exchanged between both TraceLink and non-TraceLink users and is often triggered via configurable workflows in Serialized Operations Manager. This message fulfills two main purposes:
- Acts as a trigger mechanism for a CMO to communicate its readiness to share commission or aggregation data with an MAH.
- Allows a successful End of Batch event to process in the MAH repository and send commission and aggregation data to the MAH's external system prior to shipment.
The End of Batch Event message supports the exchange of Commission, Aggregation, and End of Batch data from a CMO to a Pharmaceutical Manufacturer through five separate events:
- ObjectEvent Commissioning (mandatory)
- Aggregation Event (conditional)
- ObjectEvent Decommission (conditional)
- ObjectEvent Destroy (conditional)
- ObjectEvent End of Batch (mandatory)
The following End of Batch Event use cases are supported:
- Commission + Aggregation + End of Batch events: No Decommission/Destroy event is reported.
- Commission + End of Batch events: Product is not aggregated and no Decommission/Destroy event is reported.
- Commission + End of Batch + Decommission/Destroy events: Product is not aggregated.
