Sales Shipment Overview (XML)

The Sales Shipment message allows Owners and Partners to communicate the shipment of product. This message includes pertinent details of the sale and related shipment, including the seller and receiver location, contact information, serial numbers, and other order details (e.g. lot number, quantities, material codes).

The Sales Shipment message can be sent in two parts (i.e. one part containing shipment information and another part containing serial numbers) through a feature called "Park & Retry." The information may originate from two different systems (e.g. shipment information from an ERP system and serial numbers from a WMS system or 3PL partner). Because of this, there is no guarantee that TraceLink receives the messages in the correct order.

  • When product changes ownership from an MAH, or a CMO or 3PL acting on behalf of an MAH, to another entity, an outbound shipment is generated and the serial numbers are put into a shipped state.
  • When product is moving between locations (i.e. not a change of ownership) working on behalf of an MAH, an inbound shipment is generated and the serial numbers are put into a pending receipt state.
This message uses the Park and Retry functionality. If a prerequisite condition for this message has not been met, TraceLink stops processing the task, returns the task to the queue, and then tries to process the task again every 15 minutes for up to four hours.
