Receipt Overview (XML)

The Receipt message allows Owners to indicate the receipt of product into their warehouse, moving the serial numbers from a pending state to an available state . Receipts may result from a purchase, intra-company transfer (i.e. from one warehouse to another), or a customer return. This message also enables subscribers to the Serialized Operations Manager service to communicate receipts.

The Receipt message allows data to be sent in two parts (i.e. one part containing shipment information and another part containing serial numbers) through a feature called "Park and Retry." The information may originate from two different systems (e.g. shipment information from an ERP system and serial numbers from a WMS system or 3PL partner). Because of this, there is no guarantee that TraceLink receives the messages in the correct order.

TraceLink has implemented a "Park and Retry" capability by which the system checks to see if the prerequisite message has arrived and, if so, processes the message. If the prerequisite message has not yet arrived, TraceLink takes the message and returns it to the queue and retries the message every 15 minutes for up to a two-hour period. This provides the opportunity for the prerequisite message to arrive and allows TraceLink to process the messages in order. If the prerequisite message does not arrive after two hours, TraceLink generates an error.

Serialized Operations Manager Owners who receive inbound transfer shipments can configure their instance of Serialized Operations Manager to automatically receive transfer shipments without having to submit a Receipt message.

When enabled, the system automatically receives the inbound transfer shipments without any additional action, and all serial numbers associated with the transfer shipment are put into the Available state. Owners can configure Serialized Operations Manager to specifically include or exclude the receipt of transfer shipments from certain countries (e.g. an Owner can configure Serialized Operations Manager to only automatically receive transfer shipments with a Ship To Country Code of China or to automatically receive all transfer shipments except those with a Ship To Country Code of China).

This message uses the Park and Retry functionality. If a prerequisite condition for this message has not been met, TraceLink stops processing the task, returns the task to the queue, and then tries to process the task again every 15 minutes for up to two hours.
